http://albawtaka.com/hala-salah-press.bmp Born in 1978, Hala Salah Eldin Hussein was raised in Tanta, a city right in the middle of the Nile Delta of Egypt. Working her way into public schools, she has received a Bachelor of Arts from the Faculty of Arts, Tanta University, 1999. Her first encounter with translation was rendering the English text of An Artist of the Floating World by British novelist Kazuo Ishiguro into Arabic. She went on to translate The Gilgul of Park Avenue: An Anthology of American Short Fiction by various authors, My Hope for Peace by Egyptian former first lady Jehan Elsadat, and A Girl in Paris by Iranian singer Shusha Guppy. In April 2006, she has single-handedly established Albawtaka Review, and has been editing it ever since. Albawtaka Review is an Arabic independent non-profit online quarterly concerned with translating English short fiction. Again, in July 2010, she has embarked on another literary initiative when she has established Albawtaka Publishing House. The publishing house is meant to print translations of contemporary English fiction into Arabic, in addition to anthologies of Albawtaka Review's short fiction. In collaboration with The Arab Fund of Arts and Culture, Albawtaka Publishing House has published three anthologies of short fiction edited by Hala: Sharp Senses: First Book of Albawtaka, Ghosts With No Maps: Second Book of Albawtaka, and Hidden Faces: Third Book of Albawtaka. "It is a happy collaboration!" she says. In January 2012, she has received a grant from The British Council in Cairo to publish three issues of Albawtaka Review.
